Privacy Policy - VoiceRead
Last updated: August 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how VoiceRead (the “Extension,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the VoiceRead text-to-speech Chrome extension and its related account, subscription, and support services.
Extension's Single Purpose
VoiceRead converts text chosen by the user into speech. It can read selected text, extract the main readable content from a regular webpage, or read text entered by the user, then provide section-based playback and voice controls in Chrome's Side Panel.
Information We Collect and Process
Depending on how you use VoiceRead, we may process the following categories of information:
- Text selected for playback: text you select, readable webpage text extracted at your request, or text you type or paste into the Extension. This content is used to perform the text-to-speech function you request.
- Account information: if you sign in, we process your email address, internal user ID, account status, Free or Pro status, subscription end date, and monthly usage balance.
- Authentication information: Google OAuth and Supabase access and refresh tokens used to maintain your optional signed-in session. We do not collect your Google password.
- Playback usage: for signed-in users, a usage record may include the number of characters read, webpage title, Extension version, usage type, and timestamp. The complete text being spoken is not included in this usage record.
- Settings and local state: selected voice, language, reading speed, Side Panel preference, current playback state, selected-text state, and locally measured Free usage for signed-out users.
- Support information: information you choose to provide when contacting us.
How Text-to-Speech Content Is Processed
VoiceRead passes the text you choose to Chrome's browser-native speech synthesis interface. The Extension does not upload the complete text being spoken to our own servers. Depending on the voice available and selected on your device, Chrome, your operating system, or a third-party voice provider installed on your device may process text locally or remotely under that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
VoiceRead may divide long content into sections in the browser so that you can start a specific section, pause, resume, skip, or stop playback. The Extension excludes restricted browser pages where extensions are not permitted to read content.

How We Share Information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share limited information only as follows:
- Service providers: providers supporting authentication, database hosting, infrastructure, payment processing, subscription management, error diagnosis, and customer support. They may process information only as needed to provide services on our behalf.
- Browser, operating-system, or installed voice providers: the native speech interface may use a local or remote voice provider selected or made available by your device. Their processing is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
- Legal and safety reasons: when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, our rights, security, or the integrity of the service.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law and safeguards.
- With your direction or consent.
Payment-card and billing details are entered on and processed by the external payment provider. VoiceRead does not directly receive or store complete payment-card information.
Google API Services and Limited Use
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google account information is used only for authentication and user-facing VoiceRead account functionality. VoiceRead does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, or calendars.
Data Retention and Deletion
Local settings remain in browser storage until changed, cleared, or the Extension is removed. Authentication data is retained while needed to maintain a signed-in session and is removed from Extension storage when you log out, subject to provider session behavior. Account, subscription, and playback-usage records are retained only as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, meet accounting requirements, and comply with law.
You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal information by contacting us. We may retain limited information when required by law or for legitimate security, fraud-prevention, dispute, and compliance purposes.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including authenticated access and access controls. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information, and to restrict or object to certain processing. You may also have the right to withdraw consent or lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
Children's Privacy
VoiceRead is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required by applicable law, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.
International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as VoiceRead, legal requirements, or our practices change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Extension or our website when appropriate.
